Stellenbosch Street Soirees

Have you been to any of the Stellenbosch Street Soirees?  No?  You are missing out, they really are great evenings and there is only one left for this summer.

The Soiree sees the lower end of Church Street in Stellenbosch being closed off and a host of wine farms offering tastings of their wine.  There is always some live entertainment.  The first one we attended in December had the AMA-ZINK team as entertainment and they were absolutely fantastic!  They cleared the street and had the crowds cheering on, tourists and locals alike, and finally joining in with the dancing at the end.  If you ever get the chance to go and see them, you definitely shouldn’t miss it.

Last week Newton & Co were performing more relaxed background music creating a lovely atmosphere for the Valentine’s week.
Only open from 6 – 8pm, it is a great spot Stellenbosch Soiree Asara White Cabfor an afterwork / pre-dinner drink, to taste a few new wines and enjoy the Summer evenings.

Being ridiculously hot and a beautiful Summer evening we stuck with the white wines and MCCs.  We found Louisvale Wines which we haven’t seen before, they apparently specialise in Chardonnays and had a delicious Chardonnay Pinot Noir.   I have not been to Asara before either, but tasted their White Cab wine, which is exactly what the name implies, a white wine made from the red Cabernet Sauvignon grape.  Quite interesting and very enjoyable.  If you like your wooded whites, the Hartenberg Chardonnay and Riesling were both very good – but very wooded flavours.  As always the Simonsig & Villiera Bruts were fantastic.

Don’t miss the last one happening on 12 March 2014, otherwise you will have to wait until the next Summer season.

R30 gets you a glass and free tastings at all the participating farms as well as some live entertainment.  Lovely food and snacks are also available, otherwise pull up a chair at Brampton, Schoon de Companje or one of the other nearby sidewalk restaurants.
